A Day of Thanks!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today is just a normal day for us. It's weird to live in a foreign country around the holidays. There isn't the bustle and festive feelings I always had in the states. In those days, there would have been a long chain of texts on the family chat group,

planning food and times that coincide for gatherings and who's going to pick up the paper so that Dad can read it and the rest of us can pour over Black Friday ads. There was excitement about trying new recipes and the cousins playing at the feet of doting grandparents and card games. I miss those days so much! Precious are times with family and dear friends around the holidays.

However, this morning I've been impressed to recall the truest meaning behind Thanksgiving, which is gratitude. To be "thankful in all circumstances" is a high form of praise to the One to gave me life and to whom I gave my life back for the sake of His name. So, I choose joy on this day and I choose to believe that I lack nothing. That, I believe, is the call of a Christ follower every day.
